Welcome from Dean Akiyode

Akiyode

Welcome to Howard University College of Pharmacy. The only college of pharmacy in our nation’s capital. We have been providing pharmacy education since 1868 and continue to produce leaders for America and the global community. There are a lot of great things happening at our college. This is reflected in the fact that 97% of our graduating class of 2022 had a placement with direct employment, residency, or fellowship by May 2022. The residency match rate for our graduates was 75%. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and alumni at the college.

We work as a team and care for our students at Howard University College of Pharmacy. Due to a recent gift of $450, 000 from Alto Pharmacy, we were able to provide full-tuition scholarships for several students in our incoming class of 2026. In addition, we are providing scholarships to our current students.  We are continuing to provide contemporary pharmacy education and prepare our students for the future healthcare workforce by creating pathways and diverse opportunities such as the joint PharmD/MPH degree and health informatics pathway. We are planning for a dedicated faculty with expertise in data science and/or artificial intelligence and machine learning to further bolster our students’ learning, innovation, creativity, and exposure. This is in addition to our expansion of pharmacy industry fellowships and international rotation opportunities in all continents of the world with exception of Antarctica.

At Howard University College of Pharmacy, we CARE! We care for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. As the #1 HBCU Pharmacy Program according to the current U.S. News & World Report’s ranking, we strive for excellence in teaching and learning, practice, research, service, leadership, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism (DEIA). Welcome to our “pharmily”.
