Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Sciences (CAPS)
The Department is composed of two major disciples - pharmacy practice component and social and administrative pharmacy sciences. There are sixteen faculty dedicated to pharmacy practice, and four to social and administrative pharmacy. Consequently, our department teaches close to seventy percent of the college's curriculum. In addition to the didactic component of the courses offered by the department, CAPS is also responsible for the experiential component of our curriculum. The Ph.D. program in social and administrative disciplines also falls under the umbrella of our department.
As a result of the College of Pharmacy being an integral part of the Health Sciences Center, the department has developed a closer relationship with the Howard University Hospital Pharmacy Department. We are jointly developing descriptions of new faculty positions. These descriptions reflect the mission of the Health Sciences Enterprise as a whole and embody the needs of the College of pharmacy as well as those of the Department of Pharmacy Services and the medical staff of the hospital. The major thrust of this approach is to build and strengthen all of the collaborative aspects of the provision of excellent healthcare. While Howard University Hospital serves as the primary site for in-patient professional clinical experience for our students, the college is also affiliated to many of the best medical facilities located in and around the Washington Metropolitan area.
The department continues to strive for excellence in teaching, clinical practice, research, and public service consistent with the strategic mission, initiatives, goals and objectives of the University.
