Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) Preparatory Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Center of Excellence (COE) program, funded through the Department of Health and Human Services, was established to assist designated health profession schools and other public and non-profit, or educational institutions strengthen the national capacity to produce a culturally competent healthcare workforce, whose diversity is representative of the U.S. population.

The Center of Excellence Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) Preparatory Program is one of the many programs that are geared towards increasing the number of competitive Howard University, local area and partnership Pre-Pharmacy student applicants who apply to our Doctor of Pharmacy Program.  The PCAT Preparatory Program is an eight-week program for undergraduate level students who have completed or have less than two semesters to complete their pre-requisites for the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at Howard University.  Undergraduate students who demonstrate an interest in pharmacy as a career can register to participate.

The PCAT is required to be taken by each student applying to pharmacy school.  The PCAT consists of 7 sections: Biology, Chemistry, Quantitative Ability, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability, as well as the Essay and Problem Solving sections. The Center of Excellence is pleased to announce that we have partnered with The PCAT Prep Class based in Las Vegas[www.pcatprepclass.com].  Therefore, the course will be offered in Washington, DC at the College of Pharmacy. The course will be offered in time for students to prepare for the September and October PCAT test dates.  Below you will find a detailed schedule including the subject matter being covered each day. The PCAT Preparatory Review Sessions are designed to enhance student’s performance in Biology, Chemistry, English Essay Writing, Test Taking and Quantitative Abilities.  If you are planning to take the PCAT either for the first time or to improve your existing PCAT scores, this program will assist you in achieving your goal.  The PCAT Prep Class has 18 plus years of experience and success preparing students for the PCAT.

 OBJECTIVES:

  1. To encourage pre-pharmacy under-represented minority students to pursue careers in Pharmacy or other health professions.

  2. To provide an opportunity for pre-pharmacy under-represented minority students to develop mentoring relationships with current minority health professionals and graduate health professional students.

  3. To facilitate entry to the Doctor of Pharmacy Program

COURSE FEE

There is a cost associated with the course of $725.00.  There is a discount for the first 20 Howard University/COE Partnership School students who register.

COURSE MATERIALS

Course materials and study guides will be supplied.
