Dr. Leonard Edloe c/o 1970
Dr. Leonard Edloe, a groundbreaking pharmacist, made history as one of the youngest individuals to join the APhA Board of Trustees. Serving as the inaugural Black president of the APhA Foundation and VPhA, he marked a significant milestone in the latter's 141-year history. Dr. Edloe also became the first pharmacist to chair the Quality, Safety, Risks, and Credentials Committee of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Authority. Despite facing adversity, including being compensated by the Commonwealth of Virginia not to attend what is now Virginia Commonwealth University due to his race, he went on to receive the highest honors from APhA, NPhA, and VPhA.
His journey is a testament to resilience and excellence in the face of challenges, and he and his father were initially barred from joining VPhA due to racial restrictions. Moreover, APhA membership requirements posed another obstacle, illustrating the systemic barriers he overcame in his remarkable career.
