Pharmacy instruction at Howard University began in the “Department” of Medicine in 1868. The initial course held in the evening, offered students “knowledge of the art and science of pharmacy”. The College of Pharmacy has the distinct legacy of graduating the very first graduate student at Howard University in 1870; Dr. James Thompson Wormley.

About the Program
The Pharm. D. degree program provides students with professional knowledge and skills to perform at a high level of competence in providing pharmaceutical care and drug therapy in community and institutional settings. The curriculum includes courses in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, and clinical administrative pharmacy sciences.
Due to its location in Washington, DC, the School is able to utilize the resources from governmental agencies, private health care facilities, and other research institutions for training its students. Howard University College of Pharmacy is not only one of the oldest but is also one of the most technology-advanced schools of pharmacy in the United States.
